Susan (Sue Jaye)'s Story

Note from Susan: It has been a long time since 1965 and being Sue Jaye Punzel and editor of the school paper, a contributor to the literary journal (used loosely probably), and being in Mrs. Weigel's 12th grade homeroom. I went on to Armstrong, taught for three years at Calvary in Savannah, and then headed off to graduate school at Florida State. A few years later, with Ph.D. in French history (French Revolution/Napoleon and women's and gender studies), I joined the faculty at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia. In the meanwhile, I married Ron Conner who was employed at the Centers for Disease Control. Tift unfortunately closed in 1987, and I found a new position at Central Michigan University. There, I earned tenure...Expand for more
(again) and moved into the position of department chair and ultimately Associate Dean of the College of Humanities, Social& Behavioral Sciences. After 14 years, we moved to Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida where I was Vice-President of Academic Affairs and where my Mum joined us during her last years. Ron and I are both mid-westerners, so we moved back to Michigan when the job at Albion College opened. I have been professor of history and Provost since 2008 here. So, I retired as of July 1, and the faculty gave me a plane ticket to Paris, where Ron and I will spend Christmas and New Years. We don't downhill ski much any more, but we love cross-country skiing and sailing (we have lots of seasons here!).

Beautiful herring plate with fresh vegetables.

One always needs a few red umbrellas and an outdoor cafe.
Luxembourg City was once walled with Vauban fortifications.
Yes, it is winter in Michigan. Here's a view off the front porch. It' s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Susan and Ron.
Here we are in Milwaukee for Christmas with our cousins. We are at the Domes, an indoor botanical garden. Great place!

The snow is on the roof. The fire is in the fireplace. Michelle is in her basket. I thought winter did not come until December 21. Guess I missed the memo. After all, this is Michigan. Susan and Ron.

Michigan may be later than the rest of the U.S., but the azaleas and rhododendrons are gorgeous right now. The dogwood was beautiful two weeks ago. Think we are not in the snowbelt right now. Susan and Ron.
